The Revenge of the Red Squirrel

A video film projected through a wire mesh cage inside a walk-in boxroom with peepholes. The video showed a stuffed red squirrel come back to haunt the grey squirrels in the Royal Botanical Garden in Edinburgh. The grey squirrel was introduced to the U.K. from America. They spread and caused the decline of the red squirrel, leading to misunderstandings like the belief that they kill and eat them. The red squirrel has become a symbol of an idealised past and the grey a representation of intrusion and the foreign.
